Blue waves crashed onto the beach, bringing an assortment of seaweed and sea dwellers with it, only to have the water suck back in with most of what it brought. A few sea shells got caught in the tide, stumbling along sand until they were let out of the water's hold. A young girl bent to grab a sea shell that hadn't been cracked by the constant motion of waves. She was careful to keep the skirt of her sundress from touching the water. The sun reflected off of her dark hair, making it shine. Light reflected from the sea water, brightening her face. Callie stood and continued to walk along the water's edge, her pearl white sea shell in one hand,an old pair of beat-up flip flops in the other. Sand squished between her toes as she left footprints along the tide line, only to be washed away a few seconds later. The tide came rushing in, swirling around her feet and splashing the hemline of her dress. Callie barely noticed. 'Where is he?' she thought, looking further down the coastline, then behind her. She was supposed to be meeting someone here, but he had yet to appear. The girl chewed on her bottom lip, feeling anxious. What if he had finally realized that she wasn't good enough, or he decided he had better things to do than meet her here? The ocean continued to rise and fall. Seaweed got tangled around the teen's ankle as she stood as still as a statue, worrying over every situation possible.

Phoenix parked his car and jumped out excitedly. He was already late enough, but with good reason. He grabbed the small black velvety box from the passenger seat and rushed onto the beach, looking everywhere for Callie. He finally spotted her, looking gorgeous as usual. He smiled, tucked the box in his pocket, and ran towards her.
"Callie! He called. His smile broadened as he approached. "Sorry I'm late, beautiful." He automatically slipped his hand into hers. He led her towards the shore more and into the soft, white dirt of the beach. "I have something for you." Phoenix half purred. He couldn't wait to show her.

Callie let out a sigh of relief as she saw Phoenix running towards her. 'Of course he was going to come,' she thought, 'I should know better.'But of course, if Phoenix was late again, she'd still worry. It was just how Callie was. Her insecurities always got the best of her and she went into panic mode every time it seemed like she might be rejected. Callie switched the seashell into her other hand and pulled her hair out of her face, smiling when she saw that Phoenix was. When he held her hand, she laced her fingers with him and rested her head against his shoulder, a big smile on her face. "It's okay," Callie said, ignoring her previous panic attack. She wouldn't tell him about that because she never did; it would make her seem clingy. She let herself be led further up the beach. Sand stuck to her wet feet, but she Callie didn’t mind. She loved the beach and having sand stuck between all of her toes was just part of that fun.
"What is it?" the girl asked, her grin lighting up her face. She turned so she was facing Phoenix, but still held his hand. Callie bounced on the balls of her feet, toes digging into the white sand of the beach. She dropped her flip flops, which she had had in her other hand and used it to hold the hair out of her face that was being blown around by wind. Callie began to bite her bottom lip again. She should really stop that habit, but she did it every time she was nervous and it was difficult to just quit.

Phoenix pulled Callie closer to him and hugged her tight. It had been a few months since they'd started dating, and it was the best few months of his life. He freed one of his hands and dung into his pocket for the slender case. He thumbed the velvet and carefully brought it out. "Close your eyes." He told her. Phoenix waited until she did just that, then brought up the black box so that it was level with her face. "I hope you like it." He breathed as he opened the box and told her, "Open." And held his breath as the bracelet with a single charm - the letter 'C' for Callie - danced in the sun. ooc// sorry it took so long and is so short. I am disappointed with myself.

God, Callie loved having Phoenix’s arms wrapped around her. She felt like they were anchoring her down when the rest of her life felt so uncertain. She buried her face in his shoulder, loving the smell of his cologne. When Callie felt Phoenix move to get something out of his pocket, she moved back a bit, feeling as though their hug didn’t last long enough. She closed her eyes when she was told, letting a faint smile play on her lips. She wasn’t always a huge fan of surprises, but she was fine with them when they came from Phoenix.
It still felt slightly fairytale-ish to Callie, her and Phoenix, even though they had been dating for a few months now. Callie would pass him in the hallway before, feeling her heart beat pick up every time she saw him, but sure that he didn’t even notice her. When he had asked her out, she had to pinch herself (as cliché as it was) to make sure she really wasn’t dreaming this time. But she was still afraid that one morning she’d wake up and realize that it all had been a dream.
Callie reopened her eyes, smiling as she did so. The sun caught the charm on the bracelet that Phoenix was holding. Her hand covered her mouth and she let out a slight gasp. “Phoenix! I love it!” She exclaimed, truly meaning it. Callie ran a slim finger over the chain of the bracelet, loving the way it shimmered. “Can I try it on?” She asked, suddenly not sure of what to do. She finally settled with holding her wrist out slightly to Phoenix so he could help her with the clasp.
ooc: it's all good...i understand what its like to be completely overwhelmed

Phoenix was happy that Callie liked the gift. There was a whole reason behind why he gave her this, too. Besides the fact that he wasn't the type of guy to go all romantic, at least, and he's only done that once.
"Try it on? You can keep it, darling." He laughed as he took the bracelet from the box and clipped it around Callie's delicate wrist. It looked wonderful there. Like it belonged. It was perfect. Phoenix had made a good choice, just like the jewler had said.
"I got it because it reminded me of you - beautiful and perfect." He laughed. He sounded like a hopeless romantic, and he didn't mind it one bit. He hadn't felt this way in a long time. He found himself speaking out loud. "I know it's only been a few months, but honestly, that's the longest I've been with anyone in a while. And I know that makes me sound bad. But Callie, you are way more beautiful than any of the other girls I dated. I'm not just saying that. I feel like it's been more than just a few short months. I feel like it's been years. Our relationship feels right, perfect. I don't want it to go away."
Phoenix had never been the type to spill his guts like that, but every once in a while, he came across someone worth knowing what was on his mind. In this case, Callie. After his speech, he leaned down, kissed her lightly and pulled back, taking in a deep breath. "Callie, I.." don't know if I can bring myself to say this. "I love you." There. He said it. First time in how many years? Too many. Phoenix the Great feels love. Shocking to most. But it's true. This self-centered, football obsessed jerk feels love towards others. He just hoped others felt love towards him as well.

Callie lifted her wrist up, watching the sun glimmer off of her new bracelet. She loved the way the charm caught the light and reflected it. Callie twisted the bracelet around her wrist until it settled into a comfortable position and she looked back at Phoenix, a smile plastered on her face. She heard Phoenix say that the bracelet reminded him of her. ‘I’m far from perfect,’ she thought, opening her mouth to object, but Phoenix continued too quickly for her to say anything.
He continued to talk about their relationship. Callie could feel herself getting jealous when he mentioned the other girls he dated and she automatically started to compare herself to his previous girlfriends. She just couldn’t help it. He’d dated so many other girls, what was to say that she was any different? All this stuff he was saying, he could’ve said to any other girl. Callie pushed these thoughts away as Phoenix leaned down to kiss her. She was just getting herself worked up for nothing. Phoenix was hers for the moment and that was all that mattered. When Phoenix pulled away from the kiss, Callie tried to muster a smile, her own nervous thoughts stopping it from reaching her eyes.
Phoenix’s next words caught her off guard and echoed in her mind. He loved her? She could feel her mouth hanging open as she tried to make herself process the words. After a few seconds, Callie realized she had to respond; she looked odd with her mouth hanging ajar and her not saying anything. He just admitted his feelings to her, for crying out loud! “Oh, Phoenix!” She half said, half gasped. She hugged him closer and rested her head on his shoulder, angling her face so she could look up at him. “I love you too!”
